Walter and Merdenia Marie Berkey

A double funeral for Mr and Mrs Walter Berkey was held Monday at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon in the Olive church, five miles north of town and a crowd equal to the Wisler funeral was in attendance. The Revs Yoder and Flesher again officiated.

Walter Monroe, son of Aaron and Emma Berkey, was born at Lechlitner homestead, near Wakarusa, Ind, July 18th, 1906. Died August 19, 1933 at the age of 27 years, 1 month, and 1 day.

Merdenia Marie, daughter of Charles and Sylvia Cripe, was born in North Dakota, August 2nd, 1909, died August 19, 1933, at the age of 24 years, 17 days.

Walter and Merdenia were united in marriage January 11, 1929, to which one child, Robert Charles, was born, and who survives.

Walter was converted to Christ at an early age and united with the M B C church where he remained unto the end. Merdenia was converted more recently and was a member of the Brethren Church.

Their brief, but happy life terminated together, leaving to mourn their loss, their little son, and each father.

Besides Walter leaves eight sisters; Mrs Clara Overholser of Elkhart; Mrs Ray Leatherman, of Wakarusa; Mrs Edith Newcomer, Phoenix, Ariz; Mrs Martin Lehman, New Paris; Mrs Jesse Reed, Nappanee; Mrs George Newcomer, Woodburn, Ore; Miss Mary Berkey, at home and Mrs Earl Buse, of Chicago.

Besides her father, Merderina leaves two brothers, Paul and Ezra Cripe of Goshen. Many other relatives and a host of friends mourn with them.
