On October 16, 1940, Wilmer was living at 305 Fifth Street in Grand Island, Nebraska. That day this blue-eyed, blonde young man walked into the WWII draft registration office in Grand Island. He was working for the US Forest Service, based in Grand Island, and he listed his father, Theoldore Orndoff, as his next of kin. The clerk noted that Wilmer stood 5'11" and weighed 165 lbs.


He went on to serve in World War II.

Modale, Iowa—Wilmer (Ted) Orndoff, 68, of Modale, Iowa, died Wednesday at Missouri Valley, Iowa, following a brief illness.


Services will be at 10:30am Saturday at the Hennessey-Vancleave-Hurley Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The Rev. Milton Giesler will officiate. Burial will be at Blair.


Mr. Orndoff was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star of Modale, Iowa.


He is survived by his widow, Norma of Modale; one son, Art Orndoff of Grand Island; one step-son, Vernon Lightell of Omaha; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
