FREEMAN PARISH DIES; WAS ONCE MERCHANT HERE

FORMER BLAIR RESIDENT DIED IN PENDER EARLY FRIDAY AT AGE 66

In poor health since suffering a stroke of paralysis about two years ago, Freeman Parish, aged 66, former Blair merchant, died early Friday morning at his home in Pender. His sudden passing came as a shock to his family and friends.

The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Parish, he was born in Richland County, Wisconsin, May 26, 1868. When only three years of age he came with his parents to Fillmore County, Nebraska, where he lived ten years. That year, 1881, the family moved to Blair, where most of the members have resided since.

Finished Schooling Here

Only a boy when he came to this city, Mr. Parish finished his schooling here. Later he was married here to Miss Bertha Sas, sister of John Sas of Pender, formerly of Blair.

Mr. Parish had long been identified with the mercantile business in this city. For a quarter of a century he was connected with the Sas Brothers general merchandise store. Later he and his brother-in-law, the late Fred Sas, operated the Sas and Parish store for seven years, in the location now held by the Safeway store.

In 1929 Mr. and Mrs. Parish moved to Pender, where they had lived since.

Wife, Two Children Survive

Surviving Mr. Parish are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Mencke of Blair, and a son, Dr. Harold Parish, Pender dentist. Among other survivors are a brother, Edwin J. Parish of Blair, and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Durant of Blair, and Mrs. Ida J. Freeland, Chicago. All relatives have been here this week with the exception of the latter sister, who was unable to leave Chicago because of the illness of her husband.

Funeral services were conducted at the Campbell Mortuary Tuesday afternoon. A large number of friends attended the rites. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.
