St. Joseph County
|Death: ||Sep. 15, 1893|
First wife of Uriah Hemminger (1855-1910). Sarah and Uriah were married on April 6, 1882 in St. Joseph County, Indiana. After Sarah died, Uriah married Rosetta (Maudlin) Hemminger Lawrence (1882-1966). Sarah was the daughter of George Kline and Louisa Mary (Zimmer) Kline.
Please note: Sarah's marriage certificate incorrectly lists her name as "Laura" Anne Kline, however, census records and her headstone confirm her first name was Sarah. Also, the headstone spells her last name as "Heminger" however, the family also used the spelling "Hemminger" which is how it appeared in her obit.
Obituary: The Bremen Enquirer, Bremen, Indiana, September 22, 1893 -
The wife of Urias [should be Uriah] Hemminger living about five miles north east of Bremen, died very unexpectantly last Friday night, Sept. 15th, of heart disease. Mrs. Hemminger had done a large days work and on retiring that night, complained a little, although nothing serious was thought. She soon fell asleep and early in the morning Mr. Hemminger arose and as he got up, he noticed his wife, who was apparently asleep, looked very bad. He spoke to her and when no answer came from the woman, tried to arouse her. She only breathed one or two breaths and then expired. Her death is indeed a sad one and her bereaved husband has the sympathy of the community. Mrs. Hemminger was 36 years of age. Funeral services were held at the Evangelical Church in Bremen Sunday at 11:30 conducted by Rev. Sweitzer.
