Francis F. Hyde, 83, of 3501 L St., died last night at the Veterans' Hospital in Portland following a week of serious illness.
He was born in October, 1856, in England and joined the English Navy as a boy. He came to the United States when he was 16 years old and had made his home in Vancouver the past 24 years. He enlisted as a Private in the Spanish-American War, Company F of the Fifth Missouri Volunteers, and was discharged as a Corporal the same year, 1898. He was a member of John Barlow Camp No. 6, United Spanish War Veterans.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Hyde, Vancouver; and a sister, Mrs. Clara White, New Jersey.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Vancouver Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roy Parcel officiating. Members of the U.S.W.V. will be in charge of the committal services at Park Hill Cemetery. Harp prelude and postlude to the services will be played by Mrs. R.E. DuFresne.
