Louise A. Ganter, 106, formerly of Watertown, died Monday at Edward John Noble Hospital-Samaritan Skilled Nursing Unit, Alexandria Bay, where she had resided for more than a year.

Mrs. Ganter was born Oct. 17, 1890, in the town of Clayton, a daughter of Frank and Anna Schafer Webert. Her parents were born in Germany and met after coming to the United States.

She married Henry H. Ganter on Feb. 8, 1910, in Watertown, with the Rev. Yost Brandt, then pastor of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Ganter were farmers on Military Road in the town of Pamelia until Nov. 25, 1937. They lived in a stone mansion which was built in 1820 and previously owned by Simeon Woodruff.

The couple moved to 812 Davidson St. after retiring from farming. Mr. Ganter, who was caretaker of Glenwood Cemetery for six years, died June 29, 1944, at age 64.

Mrs. Ganter sold her house in August 1988 and, for a time, resided at Madonna Home.

She had been the oldest living member and an original parishioner of Concordia Lutheran Church, a 55-year member of Pamelia Grange and a member of the Greater Watertown Senior Citizens.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ervin (Mildred) Colligan, Glen Park; a brother, Leo Webert, Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Two daughters, Frances and Ermine Ansted, three brothers, Carl, Ross and Harry Webert, a sister, Grace Pound, and a granddaughter died before her.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Luisi, pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery.

A calling hour will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
