William Frederick Meppen, 92, longtime resident died early Thursday morning at an Idaho Falls hospital. He had been ill for the past two years.

He was born Feb, 18, 1874 at Oldenberg, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Meppen. When he was seven years of age, the family came to the United States. They moved first to New York City and later to St. Louis, Mo.

They then moved to Iowa where he attended schools.

March, 11, 1897 he married Louise Young of Glenwood, Iowa.

In ___, they moved to Idaho Falls and lived on a farm in the Taylor vicinity. In 1913, they moved to a farm two miles south of Idaho Falls in the Lewisville area.

In ____ he was appointed manager of the Idaho Irrigation District, and he then moved to Idaho Falls where he lived. The Meppen Canal and Meppen St. were named after him.

He retired in 1938. His wife died Dec. 4, 1947.

He married Helena M. Becker on Dec 21, 1948 and they lived in Idaho Falls. They spent the winter months in Long Beach, Calif. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his widow; sons and daughters,
