MARJORIE WRAY VAUTAW

Marjorie Wray Vautaw, 87, of Monticello, formerly of Logansport, died at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1915, in Fulton County, to Glen and Myrtle Neota Belle King Dice. She married Donald Wray on Oct. 29, 1929, in South Bend. He died on March 17, 1986. She next married John "Jack" Vautaw on Oct. 14, 1989, in Logansport. He survives.

She was a lifelong member and supporter of the Democratic party. When she ran for mayor of Logansport, she was the first female mayoral candidate in state history.

She was a member of First Assembly of God, Logansport, where in earlier years she was a dynamic missionary leader. She was also a Sunday school teacher at the Baptist Temple and Fulton Baptist Church.

She enjoyed traveling, and was on the final Eastern Airlines flight to Cuba prior to the Castro Revolution. She recently participated in trips to Ingomar, Mont.

She also enjoyed boating and fishing, both in Florida and on Lake Shafer. She and her husband Donald refurbished old homes in Logansport as rentals, an enterprise which lasted over 50 years.

Surviving with her husband are daughters, Bonnie Fischbach of West Lafayette and Joanie (Joseph) Sallee of Bonita Springs, Fla.; son, Billy Joe (Carol) Wray of Frankfort; stepson, John (Gayle) Vautaw of Logansport; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sons Robert Lee Wray and Donald T. Wray, daughter Mary Brown, brother Paul Dice and sister Catherine Mow are deceased.

Visitation will be today from 1-4 p.m. at Kroeger Funeral Home, Logansport. Services will be held today at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Dan Pongratz officiating.

Burial will be at Fulton Cemetery, Fulton.

Memorials may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, or to the donor's favorite charity.
