She attended medical school from 1899 to 1904 at Washburn college (Topeka KS), a part of Kansas State college and received her M.D. in 1904. She passed Missouri and Oklahoma medical board examinations that year and practiced in Oklahoma City. She was the last living person for whom a dormitory at the University of Oklahoma had been named. That same year she was treasurer of the Grand Chapter of Oklahoma, O.E.S. Dr Sanger had a long string of firsts to her credit. She was the first regular woman phsician at the University of Oklahoma, and first delegate from Oklahoma to the International Council of Women, of which she was a life member.

Before going to medical school, she taught in Oklahoma City's first high school from 1894-1897. She later said that being a doctor was not her idea at all, but her father and husband, both doctors, encouraged her to study. She was the aunt of Senator A S "Mike" Monroney.
