Roberta Moye, 86, of Ridgway in the Thicket community, passed on this life Saturday, June 7, 2003, in Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with the Rev. Dennis Buttery and the Rev. Bill Casey officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Cemetery in Ridgway. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at the funeral home. She was born in rural Omaha on Dec. 28, 1916, the daughter of the late W.L. and Esta (Rister) Bradley. She married Al Moye, who preceded her in death. She was a legal secretary for J.W. Karber and executive secretary for the Illinois Commerce Commission for several years. After retirement, she became actively involved in ceramics, becoming an instructor. She was a charter member and former president of the Gallatin County Homemakers Extension Association and also belonged to the Ridgway Women's Club. Roberta and Al had been active for many years in the Ridgway Popcorn Day Association. She was a longtime member of the New Hope General Baptist Church. Even though Roberta had no children of her own, she and her husband were like second parents to their nieces and nephews. She is survived by a brother, Curtis (Carolyn) Bradley of Ridgway; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Moye of Ridgway; nephews and nieces, Bill and Phyllis Bradley, Marilyn Sue and Gary Dillard, Alice and Max Myers, Mike and Marsha Moye, R.J. and Janet Moye, Rex and Margaret Heinke and Carol and Steven Edwards and several great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Versa Lee Heinke. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
