Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr. H.R. Ashley, 92, Gadsden, who died Tuesday, July 17, 2007. The Rev. J.W. Knight will officiate. Burial in Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mr. Ashley was a loving husband and father who thought his grandson, Dawson, hung the moon. He retired from Republic Steel with 28 years of service working as a pipe inspector. He was an avid Braves and NASCAR fan. Mr. Ashley was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Ashley; brothers, George "Buddy" Ashley and Leroy (Ruth) Ashley; and sister, Minnie Lee Bean.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Ashley; son, John (Kathy) Ashley; sister, Mary Turley; and special nieces, Paulette Powell and Lavonia Knighten.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Limbaugh, Gene Mitchell, Steve Swindall, Nick Hall, Tommie Carr and Barry Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Dwight Harper, fifth floor staff at Riverview Regional Medical Center and Gadsden Regional Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home.
