Estella Eliza was named after her mother's sister Estella Memberry and her father's mother Eliza Gibson. Estella was born at her parents' lovely home in Los Angeles on Lovelace Avenue. She was born with a defective heart valve, which they couldn't fix in those days. Although she couldn't exert herself physically, she was well educated, and taught her little brother to read when he was three. She would have been about six years old at the time. She was eight years, 10 months, and 16 days when she passed away at her parents' home on Garlland Avenue, Bunker Hill, Los Angeles, California. The home was one of the early homes in the area that had electricity, which was a blessing for a little girl who could not do anything much more strenuous that reading.
