Birth: Jan. 14, 1878
Wurtland
Greenup County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Aug. 29, 1949
Williamsburg West
James City County
Virginia, USA

Older census' list his name as "Early", however it was apparently just a childhood nickname, as he never used it as an adult. He played baseball as a young man.

A "C&O" (Chesapeake & Ohio) Railroad Company card pass #B197 "valid 'til 12/31/1912" lists Earl as "Assistant Yard Master". On 9/18/1913 he is listed on a Russell, Kentucky C&O railroad pass for his wife, Emma, as "Yard Brakeman." Another pass dated 12/18/1918 lists the same occupation.

On August 6, 1921, Earl was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Sheriff of Greenup County, Kentucky.

On or about September 28, 1935, Earl & Emma were living at 2310 South 4th Street, in Ironton, Ohio.

In 1939, the family was living briefly in Greenfield, Ohio where they ran a small store.

On July 22, 1940, Earl and Emma entered into contract to purchase their final home at 709 South 6th Street, Ironton, Ohio from M. Katie Wilson and W. Wilson.

On 6/30/1941 Earl & Emma's temporary residence was 1101 Dinwiddie St., Portsmouth, VA. This was only a temporary address for them and others while in Portsmouth. In 1947, he and Emma rented a flat at 202 4th Street in Portsmouth, Virginia. During this period they would also spend time in their home in Ironton, Ohio as well
He had a United States Coast Guard identification card, issued for the Port of Norfolk [VA], Shipbuilding and Drydock Corp. issued on Jan. 1, 1942. His occupation listed as "carpenter." Listed statistics as: 5' 9-1/2", 170 pounds. Blue eyes.

He died in Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia. His body was removed back to Ironton, Ohio for burial in Woodland Cemetery

A posthumous electric bill dated 7/5/50 lists Earl's address as 510 4th Street, 1st Floor, Portsmouth, VA., which is where Emma temporarily rented after his death.

NOTE: In naming their children, Earl and Emma seemed to often change their minds afterwards, resulting in different birth names from the names the children were actually known as, and later amended birth certificates. See some individual names. No reason is known for this.
