Joseph PHELPS, Jr., Esquire was the son of Joseph PHELPS and Sarah HOSFORD, born on 16 March 1691/1692 in Windsor, Hartford, CT. He later moved to Hebron with his family.
He married Susannah ENO on 3/8 Mar 1715 in Hebron, Hartford Co. (now Tolland Co.,), Connecticut. They had five children, all born in Hebron:
I. Lt Joseph PHELPS III 1716/1617 – 1764:
b. 21 May 1716, m. three times.
1st Noami SIBLEY, m. on 14 Aug 1734 in Hebron, Hartford Co. (now Tolland Co.,), Connecticut.
2nd Lydia ROWLEY, m. on 21 Jan 1741 in Hebron, Hartford Co. (now Tolland Co.,), Connecticut.
3rd Mrs. Susannah Morrison, m. on 16 Jun 1764 in Hebron, Hartford Co. (now Tolland Co.,), Connecticut.
II. Sarah PHELPS Hosford 1720 – 1773
b. 10 Dec 1720, m. Daniel HOSFORD on 2 Feb 1737/1738 in Hebron, Hartford Co. (now Tolland Co.,), Connecticut.
III. Lydia "Liddey" PHELPS (also Lydea, Liddey) Peters 1723 – 1784
b. 25 Nov 1723, m. John PETERS on 15 Feb 1784 in Hebron, Hartford Co. (now Tolland Co.,), Connecticut.
IV. Susannah PHELPS Pinney 1731 – 1795
b. 22 Sept. 1731, m. Isaac PINNEY.
V. Frederick PHELPS b. 1733?, m. to ? (not Mary Jones) - this Frederick may not be their child but a grandchild. More verification is needed first.
Joseph Phelps settled in Hebron, CT and died on 17 Oct 1761, he was 68 years old.
His father was one of the largest real estate owners in Hebron.
"May 1713, upon the petition of Joseph Phelps, of Windsor, requesting some allowance for several things lost by his son Joseph Phelps, a solider improved in a scout under the command of Lieut. Crocker, in his escape from the Indian enemy: this Assembly grant to the petitioner the sum of thirty shillings to be paid him out of the Colony Treasury." - (Co. Rec., Vol. 5).
