Willa Dean Hicks Dring
Funeral services for Mrs. Willa Dean Hicks Dring, 86, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Antioch United Methodist Church, Antioch Community, Simsboro, La.
Officiating at the services will be Rev. Kirby Vining, assisted by Rev. Reginald Colvin. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, La.
Born November 30, 1918, Mrs. Dring passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, following a valiant battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was a longtime employee of the Lincoln Parish School Board's School Food Service Program, serving as Lunchroom Manager at Ruston High School for many years.
A lover of her church and community, she was well-known throughout north Louisiana, with her Red Bandanna Dancing Group. She was a wonderful mother, wife, and community and church worker.
Mrs. Dring was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Alva B. Dring; an infant son, Revis Dring; her parents, Kitrill and Evie Hicks; and four brothers.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Sue Dring Brown and husband David of Farmerville, La.; two sons, Wayne E. Dring and wife Peggy of Arcadia, La., Charles A. Dring and wife Shirley of Ruston, La.; four grandchildren, Connie Brown Wise and husband Olen of Forest, La., Karen Brown and Jeff White of Farmerville, La., Stacey Dring Martin and husband James of Downsville, La., and Jason Dring of Washington, D.C.; great grandchildren, Devin Tucker, Whitney Tucker, Alex Wise, Will Wise, Laura Wise, Tanner Martin and Tory Martin; two brothers, Lamar Hicks and wife Vera Dean of Rayville, La., and Ardis Hicks and wife Odyean of Rayville; sisters-in-law Geraldine Hicks of Rayville, Wiley Wood of Shreveport, and Lucille Dring of Simsboro; and a host of other relatives and special friends of the Antioch Community.
Pallbearers will be James Martin, Jeff White, Devin Tucker, Larry Stanley, Rayburn Hicks and Freddie Price.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8th, at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank all the members of the Antioch Community for their devotion to our mother, and a special thanks to leslie Lakes Retirement Center in Arcadia for their excellent care of our mother for a short six months.
