Elsa Martha Ullmann was born September 4, 1889 to Friedrich and Selma Reuter Ullmann. She was born in Rothenthal bei (near) Odberehau in Koenigsreich Sachsen (Province of Saxony). She immigrated with her parents and her 2 older sisters, Hilma and Milda, to America at the age of 14 months. The family settled in the West Point / Prairie Valley area and pursued a farming occupation.
On December 2, 1909, she married Carl Wessels. They moved in with Carl's parents in the Wessels home and they too began farming in the area with the Wessels and Ullmann families. On December 4, 1910, they had their first child, a son Alvin Georg Friedrich. On November 22, 1912, a daughter Leona Anna Klara was born and she was followed by another son, Walter Johann Emil on February 18, 1915.
Carl (Charles or Charlie) and Elsa (Elsie) lived their entire married lives in the original Wessels home. Carl passed away on November 14, 1958. He was followed by Elsie on December 2, 1972.
Alvin married Elaine Keilberg and settled in Smithville. Leona married Charles Tramp and they too, settled in the Smithville area. Walter married Lorine Tramp and lived with his parents in the Wessels homestead.
