John B. Long, was a native of Pennsylvania, born in October, 1808. The Rev. Long died at the home of a daughter at Gibsonburg February 10, 1895. Rev Long was aged 88 years, his death was the result of old age. He had been in declining health for several years. He was an ordained minister in the United Brethren Church, and spent his life in that calling, and, as was customary in many cases in those days, also carried on farming.
After his marriage in 1832 he removed to Stark county, Ohio, from thence to Seneca county, and subsequently to Madison township, Sandusky county, in which latter place he made his home for thirty years. He later removed to Center township, Wood county, and, died at Gibsonburg February 10, 1895.
His marriage in 1832 to Miss Lydia Fry, who bore him ten children, as follows: Louisa, wife of J. F. Sampsel, residing in Sandusky county; Samuel, residing at St. Louis, Mich.; Jacob F., residing in Bowling Green; Daniel, living at Bowling Green; Rebecca, wife of A. B. Garn, residing at Gibsonburg; William,a farmer of Weston township, Wood county; John Wesley, a farmer of Center township, Wood county; Arcanus, a farmer of Madison township, Sandusky county; Michael E., a farmer, also residing in Madison township; and Samantha E. (Mattie), wife of Charles Pike, of Bowling Green.
Lydia preceded him in death on 19 April 1878. He then married Elizabeth " Betsy" Sampson Marshall on Sept 5 1878. He was step father to her children, Matthew, James and Esther Marshall, the two latter now of Bowling Green. His wife survives him.
The following is from an article in the Wood County Democrat, February 15, 1895. :
" The remains were brought here on the 8:39 T. & O.C. train Tuesday morning and were conveyed to the home of J.F. Long on West Wooster street. The funeral, which was attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives, was held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Rev. French, of Weston, conducted the services. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery. "

Note: there is no record of John B. Long being buried at Oak Grove. But the Wood county Democrat ( 15 Feb 1895) states that he was indeed interred at Oak Grove.
Note: John B. Long is not buried here, his funeral was held here, but cemetery has no record of his burial here. still looking for final resting place.
