Born Winston Hubert MacIntosh, he was singer, songwriter, guitarist and one of the pioneers of reggae music. With Bob Marley he formed the group the Wailers in 1963 and co-wrote many of the band's hits such as "Get Up, Stand Up" (1973). In 1975, he went solo made numerous concert appearances in the United States, Europe and appeared with Mick Jagger as a guest on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" in 1980. He recorded for various record labels with albums to include "Legalize It" (1976), "Equal Rights" (1978), "Wanted Dead and Alive" (1981), "Mama Africa" (1983) and "No Nuclear War" (1987). On the evening of September 11, 1987, he was shot and killed in his home in St. Andrew, Jamaica, under mysterious circumstances. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
