From Massachusetts. Builder of the California State Capitol. Died at the age of 89 years, 11 months, 26 days, of senility.

Sacramento Daily Union, Volume 93, Number 11, 5 March 1897: "OLD RESIDENT GONE. Death of P. W. Burnett, One of the Pioneers of 1850. P. W. Burnett, one of the oldest residents of Sacramento, died at 8 o'clock last evening at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. D. DeMerritt, 717 P street. Mr, Burnett was a native of Belchertown, Mass., and came to Sacramento in 1850. His family followed him in 1852, and have since resided here. He was a life member of the Sacramento Society of California Pioneers. Had he lived until Monday next he would have been 90 years of age.

He was a carpenter by trade, and superintended the building of the State Capitol, at times having over 100 men under him. Mr. Burnett leaves, besides the daughter—at whose residence he died —two sons, H. A. Burnett and G. G. Burnett. His wife died about twelve years ago."
