Served three years, returned home in 1865 with an honorable discharge. He was a brave soldier. He again united in marriage to Julia Yates in 1884. To this union was born 12 children, 4 of whom died in infancy. He joined the M.E. church at Etna Furnace in 1883. Since that time he lived in close communion with God. During the last three weeks of his life he spent his time praying and rejoicing, often telling them "all is well; I am saved, don't mourn for me when I'm gone, rejoice, I'm going home." A few hours before death he sang, "Jesus can make a dying bed feel soft as downy pillows are". Father we miss thee, oh we miss thee."
