Delray Beach, FL - EDITH F. BAILEY, 91, a resident of the Lake Worth Towers, in Lake Worth Florida, and formerly of East Liverpool, Ohio, died Saturday August 20, 2011 at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Florida.
Mrs. Bailey was born on December 12, 1919, a daughter of the late Walter E. Skidmore and Terzah F. Roush Skidmore. She was a 1936 graduate of East Liverpool High School and a 1941 graduate of the Grace Martin Business School in Pittsburgh.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene. An accomplished pianist, she was active in music ministry in churches in Lisbon, Gardendale, Calcutta, LaCroft, East Liverpool First Church, and most recently in Lake Worth Florida. A generous benefactor to the church in many ways, she created a memorial scholarship to Mount Vernon Nazarene College in her late husband Carl B. Bailey's name.
Edith retired in 1977 after nearly 40 years as the Business Manager and Accountant for the Pearl China Company on Dresden Avenue in East Liverpool.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl B. Bailey in 1983, her sister Eleanor Rice and her three brothers, Honorable Thomas Skidmore, Donald Skidmore and Thomas Skidmore. She is survived by her sister Rebecca (John) Bricker; her brother-in-law Edward (Eleanor) Rice, and several nieces and nephews.
Edith's generous and thoughtful personality touched the lives of friends and family; her energetic spirit resonated through her later years, as she cared for others with steadfast persistency, faith and love. She will be greatly missed.
Friends and relatives may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home, 215 W. Fifth St. East Liverpool, Ohio 43920, on Friday, August 26 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Pastor Merrill Williams will conduct a Christian funeral service at the First Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, August 27, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
