Roberta Allene Moore was the fifth of eight daughters born to Harry C. Moore and Margaret Ann Gonterman. She married Harley Daniel Towns on August 14, 1933 in Syracuse, Kansas. They had three sons and one daughter. Harley and Roberta were married 60 years before Harley's death.
Roberta loved her family. There was a wonderful gathering of family for her 90th birthday celebration. Roberta had another baby, a little Bichon Frise dog named Snowball. She doted on that dog, even cooked it fried chicken weekly. One of her grandsons proclaimed that since he was her baby, that made Snowball his uncle. To this day, Snowball carries the nickname of "Uncle Henry". Her little dog joined her in Heaven in August, 2008. That must have been such a happy reunion for both of them.
Roberta was an avid stitcher. Until shortly before her death, she was stitching embroidery and cross stitch on pillow cases and hand towels. Many of these treasures are now tucked away - safely held until they can be given to her great-grandchildren when they are a little older. They are little bits of her love that they will be able to touch.
It is hard to describe the twinkle that Grandma could get in her eyes. I remember quite vividly the first time she held my youngest child. She offhandedly asked, "Has her eyes turned brown yet?" and baby chose that moment to take her first real look at her Great-Grandma... with eyes just as brown as fresh brewed coffee. Grandma looked quickly up at me and laughed while her eyes were all bright and merry. I cherish the memory.
Grandma lived in the dustbowl during the Dirty 30's and was prone to bouts of pneumonia and so it was that pneumonia took her away from us. We miss her every day.
