| Birth: | 1887 | | Death: | Dec. 19, 1941 |  Canadian military figure. Born in the UK in 1887. He served in WWI where he won a Military Cros at the Battle of Passchendaele. At the beginning of WWII, he was the Director of Military Training,in Ottawa, before he was given the command of the Royal Canadian Regiment and the other Canadian militia units who arrived in Hong Kong on November 16, 1941 as reinforcements for the British garrison there. Brigadier general, he was not only the senior Canadian officer in Hong Kong, but in the course of the siege, he also took the command of the Island Brigade and then the West Brigade. He was killed in action by the attacking Japanese forces on December 19, 1941. (bio by: Guy Gagnon)
