Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Frankford, Pennsylvania, he served as a Private in Company B, 15th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, Union Army. During the Battle of Stone River, Tennessee, December 31, 1862 to January 1, 1863, Private Tweedale displayed extraordinary heroism in actions against the Confederate forces. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on November 18, 1887. After the war, he has commissioned an officer in the Regular Army, later served as Chief Clerk of the War Department and retired a Colonel on June 10, 1905. He died at age 79 in Washington D.C.
