Eldon J. Bowers, 90, of Lafayette, died at 3:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Indiana Veterans' Home, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.

He was born July 7, 1921, in Lafayette, the son of the late Earl P. and Bernice Irene Brand Bowers. A life resident of the Greater Lafayette area, he graduated from Dayton High School in 1940.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a radio operator on a troup carrier group with the Army Air Corps.

He married Dorothy Marshall on Dec. 24, 1942, in Mulberry, and she died April 2, 2004.

Mr. Bowers was an electrician and owned and operated Ralph Bowers Electric from 1950 to 1984.

He was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, recently attending Congress Street United Methodist Church, a former member and past president of Lafayette Exchange Club, past president of Southern Indiana/Kentucky District for the Exchange Club, and a life member of American Legion Post 11.

Surviving are sons, Larry Bowers (wife: Glenna) of Lafayette and Steven Bowers (wife: Lynn) of West Lafayette; and a sister, Ruth McIntosh of Lafayette.

He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
