Louisa Venable Kyle, 96, of the 3100 block of Shore Drive, died Oct. 24, 1999, in her home.
Mrs. Kyle was born in Norfolk and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Wight Venable and William Henry Venable. She was the widow of William Emmett Kyle. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Kyle was a member of National Society of the Colonial Dames of America; the Monday Club; an honorary member of Virginia Beach Garden Club; and a former member of Princess Anne Garden Club.
Survivors include her three daughters, Louisa Kyle Hathaway of Virginia Beach, Elizabeth Kyle Andrews of Norfolk and Anne Kyle Moore of Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A church service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at All Saints Episcopal Church by the Rev. Dr. Stanley Sawyer. Burial will be private. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.

"Louisa Venable Kyle studied at Mary Baldwin Seminary and graduated from Lasell Seminary. She wrote for the Virginian-Pilot and The Portsmouth Star and was one of the founding members of the Princess Anne County Historical Society. Her children's book The Witch of Pungo and Other Historical Stories of the Early Colonies is based on seven folktales from Princess Anne County, including the tale of Grace Sherwood. Her memoir, My Virginia childhood: The years 1903-1914, was published in 1976. Other works included A Country Woman's Scrapbook (1980) and A Country Woman's Christmas (1993)."
