West Yorkshire, England
|Death: ||Dec. 17, 1891|
John Stowe was the son of John and Alice Stowe.
On November 22, 1856 in Norwich, Canada, John married Emily Howard Jennings. At the time of their marriage, John was a carriage maker. After the birth of their third child, John was diagnosed with tuberculosis and sent to a sanitorium. Emily returned to her job as a teacher to support the family but found it was not a lucrative profession for women. It was during this time that Emily began her training as a physician. Following his recovery from tuberculosis in the mid-1870's, John trained as a dentist.
John and Emily had children: Ann Augusta, John Howard, and Frank Jennings. Their daughter, Ann Augusta, would go on to be the first female to graduate from a Canadian medical college. Their son, Frank, joined his father in his dental practice.
