French officer and hero of the Seven Years War in America. Knight of the Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis. Born on January 31, 1714 in Cailla (France). Incorporated in the Regiment of La Sarre, he began as second lieutenant on January 1, 1734. He continued as lieutenant on October 31, 1735 and captain on July 6, 1741, then as captain of grenadiers on March 22, 1756. He succeeded Senezergues de Rode, killed at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, as commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion of the Regiment of La Sarre. On October 1, 1759, he obtained the rank of lieutenant-colonel at the same time he was awarded the Cross of Saint-Louis. On May 3, 1760, he deceased from wounds he received at the Battle of Sainte-Foy. He is buried in the cemetery of the General Hospital of Quebec from which a part, called "Cemetery of the Heroes", became in 2001 the Memorial of the War of Seven-Years. (bio by: Guy Gagnon)
