Actress. Best remembered for her television roles including, 'Jennifer Talbot' on "General Hospital" from 1985 to 1986, 'Margaret Millington' on "Secrets Of Midland Heights" from 1980 to 1981, 'Helen Elgin' on "The Bionic Woman" from 1976 to 1977, and from 1954 to 1958 she was the host/narrator for the series, "Modern Romances." She appeared in the films, "Charlotte's Web 2: Wilbur's Great Adventure", Adam: His Song Continues" (1986), "Adam" (1983), "Summer Girl" (1983), "First Monday In October" (1981), "Father Figure" (1980), "The Turning Point" (1977), "Lemonade" (1975), "Medical Story" (1975), "Columbo: Payback" (1975), "The Abduction Of Saint Anne" (1975), "Airport 1975" (1974), "Thursday's Gone" (1974), "Sorority Kill" (1974), "Charlotte's Web" (1973), "The Devil's Daughter" (1973), "Ben-Hur" (1959), "The Ten Commandments" (1956), "The Desperate Hours" (1955), "Hi Diddle Diddle" (1943), "Stage Door Canteen" (1943), "The Howards Of Virginia" (1940), and "When I Grow Up" (1951). Her many television appearances include, "The Bob Newhart Show," "Hotel," "Murder She Wrote," "The Love Boat," "Highway To Heaven," "Police Story," and "Route 66" among many others. Her most famous role was as 'Emily Webb' in the 1940 film, "Our Town" in which she also played on stage. For her role in the film she received an Academy Award nomination. She was married to jazz musician Mel Powell from 1946 until his death on April 24, 1998. (bio by: K)
