Sarah was born to William R and Margaret Moore Lockard in Iowa, and she had two sisters, Minerva Lockard Switzer and Alice Lockard Jones, and two brothers Leonard and Joseph. Pioneer hosts say that her family came across the prairie and over the mountains to California in 1862.
Sarah married George "Albert" Skinner and she had 8 children of which 5 survived. There was Minnie M Skinner Clark, Elva A Skinner Piner, Bertha E Skinner Pieratt, and Charles, and George D Skinner.
In her later years, she lived with her daughter, Elva and son-in-law Charles Piner, in Capell Valley, Napa County, where she passed to her final rest.
