Miller S. "Dan" Pflager, 93, of 745 Norland Avenue, and formerly of 360 Strickler Avenue, Waynesboro, Pa., and Wesley Drive, Quincy, Pa., died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born May 10, 1914, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Charles W. Sr. and Cheryl Clingman Pflager.
He was a graduate of Evanston High School, Evanston, Ill., with the class of 1932. He later graduated from the University of Illinois as a civil engineer with the class of 1936.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked as general superintendent of Albert M. Higley Co., Cleveland from 1969 until his retirement in 1981.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, Sons of the American Revolution, Delta Phi and National AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Wood Pflager; three daughters, Sandra Wischmeyer of Littleton, Colo., Charlene Balistrere of Waynesboro and Jessie Avery of Lafayette, Colo.; one son, William Pflager of Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Darthea Schmidt; and his brother, Charles W. Pflager, Jr.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. The Rev. A. Robert Cook will officiate.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Antioch Hillside Cemetery, Antioch, Ill.

Miller S. "Dan" Pflager, 93, Chambersburg, Pa., and formerly Waynesboro, Pa., and Quincy, Pa., died Aug. 20, in Chambersburg Hospital. He had been critically ill for the past week.

Born May 10, 1914 in Chicago, he was the son of the late Charles W., Sr. and Cheryl (Clingman) Pflager. He lived in various Illinois communities, including, Chicago, Evanston, Waukegan, Hinsdale, Antioch, Western Springs, and Glenview. Prior to moving to the Waynesboro area in 1987, they also lived in Montgomery, Ala., and Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr. Pflager was a 1932 graduate of Evanston High School. He later graduated from the University of Illinois as a civil engineer with the Class of 1936.

He served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the United States Navy as an officer in the Seabees (construction battalion) during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Pflager and his wife of 66 years, Mrs. Ruth (Wood) Pflager, were married Aug. 31, 1940 in Springfield, Mass.

Following graduation from college, Mr. Pflager was employed as an engineer for the Highway Department of Illinois. He later worked in the Pittsburgh area steel mills. Following his discharge from the military, he was employed as General Superintendent of Summer Sollitt Company, Chicago. In 1964 he was employed as General Superintendent of Blount Brothers, Montgomery, Ala., until 1966 when he became general superintendent of William Schwitzer Company, Chicago. He was last employed as general superintendent of Albert M. Higley Company, Cleveland, Ohio from 1969 until his retirement in 1981.

Mr. Pflager was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, Sons of the American Revolution, Delta Phi, and National AARP.

He was the recipient of a Service Recognition Certificate and Citation from the State of Illinois.

He was a champion decoy carver and an avid outdoorsman and golfer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Sandra Wischmeyer of Littleton, Colo., Charlene Balistrere of Waynesboro and Jessie Avery of Lafayette, Colo.; one son, William Pflager of Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Darthea Schmidt; and his brother, Charles W. Pflager, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Sept. 1 at Strang Funeral Home, 1055 Main Street, Antioch.

Interment will follow in Antioch Hillside Cemetery, Antioch.
