Guertha Sawyer Blount, age 97, of Hunnicutt Avenue, Elizabeth City, NC died Friday, August 5, 2011, at Windsor House, Windsor, NC. Mrs. Blount was born in Currituck County, NC, the daughter of the late Alveston and Sarah Sawyer of Spot, NC and was the widow of James Gardner Blount. She was one of the oldest members of Corinth Baptist Church.
Mrs. Blount is survived by two sons, Al Blount and wife, Judy, of Shiloh, NC and Jim Blount and wife, Sally, of Edenton, NC; a daughter, Letitia B. Bratton and husband, Charlie of New Bern, NC; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Blount and wife, Theresa of Greenville, NC, Stuart Blount and wife, Toni of Lauringburg, NC, Brandon Blount and wife, Bobbi of Shiloh, NC, Cameron Evans and wife, Dena of Greenville, NC, Meg E. Temkin and husband, Harry of Montclair, NJ, Jim Blount, Jr. and wife, Kelly of Cary, NC, and Jenny Blount Williams and husband, Paul of Edenton, NC; 15 great grandchildren and another on the way.
A graveside service will be conducted Monday, August 8, 2011 at 3PM at Powells Point Baptist Church in her native Currituck County with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 7, 2011 from 4PM to 5PM at Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC.
