Samuel Breck Davenport was born 5 April 1819 in New Haven Connecticut. His parents were Hezakiah DAVENPORT (1769-1854) and Philena PIERPONT (1783-1827). In 1860, Samuel moved with his family and younger brother to Nevada County, California. He worked as a US Tax Collector and then as a Life and Fire Insurance Agent and mine owner. In 1879 he moved to Walla Walla, Washington, leaving his family behind, and died in there as a result of hernia surgery on 24 Feb 1899.
Samuel married Mary Ophelia Hunt on May 15, 1841 in Baltimore Co. MD. Their children are James Percival Davenport, Augustus Pierpont Davenport, Adelaide Virginia Davenport Deal, Ada Francis Davenport Reardon, Alice Ophelia Davenport Harrison, and two who died in infancy. Mary died March 30, 1909 in San Francisco at age 89. She was cremated and her grave has not been identified.
On June 4, 1888, Samuel married Mary Arabella Keyes Willis, a widow, in Walla Walla, Washington. No children resulted from this marriage.

Since there is no marker, I put a red "X" in the 2013 photo above to indicate his burial site.
Note: Samuel Davenport did not have a marker. He was buried in the Masonic section in a "donation plot." Cemetery records record him simply as "S B Davenport."
