The body of Marcus Bartlett was shipped here from Webster City, Iowa, and was buried from the Presbyterian church Tuesday forenoon, Rev. Dingle officiating. Mr. Bartlett will be remembered by the older ones of this vicinity he having lived near East Paw Paw for many years before moving to Iowa. Following is the obituary:
Marcus Augustus Bartlett was born at Thompson, Geauga County, Ohio, Dec. 25, 1815, where he lived with his father Joseph H. Bartlett until the age of twenty-four, when he married Mary A. Fowler, daughter of Captain John and Nancy Ann Fowler. A year latter they came to Princeton, Bureau Co., Ill. Two years later they settled at East Paw Paw, where he lived forty-three years on a farm. To them were born five children, Cora Heslet of Evanston, Alice E. Gamet of Chicago, Albert F. of Webster City, Iowa, Louise and Emma now deceased.
Mr. Bartlett was a thoroughly conscientious Christian, and had much to do with the early church at East Paw Paw. He was a class leader for thirty years, and for fifteen years was Superintendent of the Sabbath School in that place. At all times he manifested an unceasing interest in every department of church work.
Mrs. Bartlett, a devoted Christian woman, a loving mother and faithful help mate to her husband passed to her heavenly reward in 1886. In 1892 Mr. Bartlett married Mrs. Elizabeth Vincent of Webster City, Iowa. She has tenderly cared for his every need through his declining years.
Through health and sickness Mr. Bartlett found inspiration and comfort in his Bible and ever maintained a constancy of devotion and faith. When death came he was ready for the change. He died Jan. 19, 1907, aged 91 years and 25 days.
