Lincoln was the 7th son of Jennie and Hans Hansen. He married his first wife, Hilma Hagen on April 7, 1927 in Hendricks. She died in Hendricks on Jan 21, 1929. He married his second wife Sema Sally Olinda Boraas on June 26, 1932 in Madison, Wisconsin. They had two children, James Boraas and Kathleen Dee.

Lincoln was a veteran of WWI, having served in the US Navy during 1918-19. Part of this service was aboard the battleship USS Arizona (later destroyed by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor), when it made a run to Turkey to protect Americans in the area. After his discharge, he was employed in various trades in Minneapolis, MN.
