Wilbert F. Kruel, 90, Union, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, in Washington.
Mr. Kruel was born June 17, 1921, in Union, the son of the late Elmer Kruel and wife Elizabeth, nee Kleekamp.
He received his education in Union and graduated from Union High School in 1939. Mr. Kruel served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 39th Armored Division, which helped to liberate Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps. On June 29, 1946, he was united in marriage to Annette Vondera at Immaculate Conception Church, Union. The couple made their home in Union. Mr. Kruel was employed by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for 25 years as an electrician until his retirement in 1981. He was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Kruel. Mr. Kruel is survived by his wife, Annette Kruel, nee Vondera, Union; one son, Neil Kruel and wife Hanna, Union; two daughters, Elizabeth Wilmesherr and husband David, Union, and Mary Allison and husband Robert, Arnold; five grandchildren, Alisha Allison, Julianne Kranz-Allison and husband James, Grace Allison, Aaron Kruel and Joshua Kruel; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Kruel, Macon; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. A funeral Mass was held Monday, Aug. 15, at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, with Monsignor Matthew Mitas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
