US Congressman. He was elected to represent Massachusetts' 6th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1845 to 1851. A long time political force in his native state prior to his Congressional term, he was served in the Massachusetts State Legislature in 1833, from 1835 to 1836, 1838, and in 1841, when he served as Speaker of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1841. He also served a term in the Massachusetts State Senate from 1838 to 1839. (bio by: K)
