November 16, 1921 issue of "The LaFayette Sun":

Miss Gussie Pate Died Last Thursday.

Miss Gussie Pate died at her home in this city last Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock of pneumonia, after an illness of about three weeks. She returned from Birmingham three weeks ago, where she was called on account of the death of her sister, Mrs. Patton, and had been ill since her return.
The deceased was born and reared in LaFayette and had many friends here and throughout the county. She was a member of the LaFayette Methodist Church, having joined the church when quite young. She is survived by one sister - Miss Susie Pate, and one brother - John Pate, both of this city; a niece - Mrs. Brocato, and a nephew - James Patton, both of Birmingham. Mrs. Brocato and little daughter and Mr. Patton came to attend the funeral.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church last Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. W. Rucker, pastor of the Baptist Church, and Rev. A. F. Laird, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and Dr. W. C. Bledsoe. The interment was in the city cemetery.
