William Ashmore was the youngest son of Lee Ashmore and Minnie Reno Ashmore. He was born on his great-grandfather's farm near Manor, Texas, on February 4, 1919. William married Frances Malmquist on June 21, 1941. They had three sons. As a young man, William worked as a milkman, a bus driver, and on oil rigs in Louisiana. Later he gained employment with Todd Shipyard in Galveston, Texas. He served as personnel manager for the company until his retirement.
Obituary: William Ambus Ashmore Sr., 66, died Wednesday at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at J. Levy & Bro. Funeral Home, the Rev. Herbert Polinard officiating and with Masonic services under the auspices of Harmony Lodge 6. Burial will be in Capital Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin. Mr. Ashmore was born Feb. 4, 1919, in Manor, Texas; he was retired as personnel director at Todd Ship Yard, Galveston, where he had worked more than 38 years. He had lived in Galveston 43 years and was a member of the Scottish Rite and Harmony Lodge 6 AF&AM. He was also a member of Central Christian Church, Galveston. Survivors include his wife, Frances Ashmore of Galveston; three sons, Phillip Ashmore of Alta Loma, Van Ashmore of Galveston and William A. Ashmore Jr. of Austin; a brother, Harvey Lee Ashmore of Galveston; two sisters, Elizabeth Anderson of Austin and Stella Stringer of Manchaca, Texas, and two grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Pistone, Ronny Hagood, Brady Richardson, Daniel Whichard, Dwight H. Leveritt Jr. and James Incalcaterra. Memorials may be sent to Central Christian Church or a favorite charity.
