Author of two volumes of verse, a prose work on education entitled "Adam and His Children," and a series of very popular religious tracts. She died of cancer of the breast, but, in "Father and Son," Sir Edmund Gosse did not refer to the disease by name, describing it as "one of the most cruel maladies by which our poor mortal nature can be tormented."
