MRS. MARY ACRIDGE
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Acridge, 76, widow of the late Fred Acridge, well known farmer of the Rock Creek neighborhood, will be held Friday [2 July] at 2 p.m. in Cheney memorial Chapel with internment in Evergreen Cemetery.
The body will arrive in Fort Scott early Friday morning from Eugene, Ore. Mrs. Acridge died there Thursday morning following a two-month illness.
She was born Nov. 1, 1888 in the Rock Creek neighborhood, one of eight children born to Samuel Weber and Rachel (Perry) Pyle. She moved with her family in 1900 to Oklahoma where they participated in the land rush. On June 20, 1905 she married Mr. Acridge at Oswego, [Labette Co.] Kas. She and her husband returned to Fort Scott and farmed until 1934 when the family moved to Woodson County. Mr. Acridge preceded her in death June 6, 1942, at which time she returned to Fort Scott to live. In 1947 she moved to Veneta, Ore., where she made her home until May of this year. Due to ill health she moved to Eugene to live with a daughter.
Survivors include eight children, William W. Acridge and Mrs. Merle (Ethel) Evans, Veneta; Joe Acridge, Yates Center, Kas.; Verne Acridge, Blue Hill, Neb.; Leroy Acridge, Lawrence, Kas.; Ralph Acridge, Concord, Calif.; Donald Acridge, Ft Worth, Tex.; and Mrs. Edgar (Mary) Pitt, Eugene, Ore. Also surviving are a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
