Martin A. Ahlvin, 82, of Platteville, WI, formerly of Munster, IN, died Saturday, December 9, 2000 at Heartland Health Care Center in Platteville. Born May 22, 1918 at E.St.Louis, IL, son of Martin and Mabel Alder Ahlvin. Married to Charlotte Doxsee at Indianapolis, IN on July 8, 1943, she preceded him in death Nov. 29, 1999. Graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor Degree in Engineering. He and his brother followed in their fathers footsteps and were Civil Engineers. He was employed by Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and was also a former President of the Nipsco Service Club; also a member of American Association of Engineers; and a Captain in the Army Air Force during WWII. Survivors include one son, Eric (Amy) Ahlvin of Galena; one daughter, Karen (Robert) Messer of Oak Park and Galena; three grandchildren: Keith and Christine Ahlvin and Ingrid Messer; one brother, Richard Ahlvin of Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one granddaughter, Elise Messer. There will be no visitation. Private family services will be Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, IL, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.
