Hallieford - Elwood Joseph Atherton, 72, died Wednesday at home.

He was a member of the Mechant Marine before retirement and was a member of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Oriental Masonic Lodge 20 and Chapter 30 of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Constance Lee Atherton; a daughter, Mrs. Diane A. Sadler of Hallieford; a half-sister, Mrs. Molly Parks of Baltimore, and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert C. Painter. Burial will be in Mathews Chapel Cemetery.

Oriental Masonic Lodge 20 will conduct a memorial service at 8 Friday night in Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews.
