Chester – Mrs. Azilee Johnson Jessup, age 96, died Saturday, August 6, 2011 in Bryant Nursing Center in Cochran. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at 10:30 AM in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cochran.
Mrs. Azilee was born in Dodge County and lived in Chester for most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Ethel Johnson and her husband Blanton A. Jessup. She is a Christian and was an active member of Chester Baptist Church. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women and Georgia Southern University and taught in Chester public school for over thirty years touching many lives over the course of her career as an educator. After retirement, she continued her work of serving others by ministering to less fortunate in the area through service. She lived each day working to follow commands of Jesus from Matthew 22:37-39.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Lee and Evelyn Jessup of Cochran; three grandchildren, Joanna J. (John) Hall of Darien, Jed L. (April) Jessup and Benjamin B. (Erica) Jessup of Macon; four great grandchildren, Brooks Jessup, Blanton Jessup, Jolee Hall and a child due in December to Jed and April Jessup; her sister, Pearl Nutt of Eastman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Gideon International, PO Box 95, Cochran, GA 31014.
The family is at 152 Jones Road, Cochran and will greet friends from 6 until 8 PM Monday at Mathis Funeral Home.
