Drafted as a defensive tackle, he played six seasons with the Green Bay Packers, from 1945 to 1951. Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, he began his college career at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, later transferring to LSU and finished his college career at Tulane in New Orleans. Ed was a large man, 6-4, 285-300 pounds, which is common today, but back in his era his size was an intimidating sight to the opposite team. He was cut from the Packers mid 1951 and picked up by the Chicago Bears where he played until injuries forced him to retire.
