Elvin “Al” Monthy of Livingston, Polk County, Texas died Tuesday, May 11, 2004. He was 81 years old at the time of his death.

Al was born January 19, 1923 in Chipawaw (Chippewa), Wisconsin. He was the son of Emil and Olive Richards Monthy.

Funeral services were held at the Central Baptist Church in Livingston where he had served as deacon. Reverend Barry Jeffries performed the service. His grandson, Austin TheBerge, read a passage he had written on the way to the services.

Al was buried in Bold Springs Cemetery, Polk County.

Al was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Olive Richards Monthy, son, Lany Floyd Monthy and brother Floyd Monthy.

Al was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. While in the Navy, he attained the rank of gunners mate second class.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Yancy Monthy; son and daughter-in-law Phillip Elvin and Rhonda Beth Monthy of League City; daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn Monthy TheBerge and Patrick of Houston and Karen Monthy Thomas and Dale of Cypress; daughter-in-law, Judy Monthy of League City; sister and brother-in-law, Esther Monthy Yancy and Steve of Lake Striker; sister-in-law, Rita Monthy of Cresco, Iowa; grandsons Jeremy T. Monthy and wife Wendi, Garrett H. Monthy, P. Michael TheBerge and Austin M. TheBerge; granddaughters Laura M. Monthy and Chelsea E. Thomas; great-granddaughter. Meridian B. Monthy and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
