Mary Lou VanWie,  83,  of the St. Joseph's Nursing Home passed away Wednesday,  May 13,  2009.   Mary Lou was born in Utica on June 28,  1925  a daughter of William J. and Carolyn (Essel) Hackett.   For many years she was employed as a registered nurse at Marcy State Hospital and then later until her retirement the Genesee Nursing Home in Utica.   Mary Lou was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church,  Utica and a former member of the church choir,  the Women Club of the church,  the New York State Nurses Association and the St. Francis de Sales Alumni Association.   Mary Lou will be remembered for her eloquent voice.   Her love of singing brought much joy to many as she sang for weddings at St. Francis de Sales Church.   Heaven will be blessed with her beautiful voice.   Mary Lou is survived by her son;  Mark VanWie of Schnectady,  NY,  her sister and brother-in-law;  Carol and Michael McGuirl,  Utica and many nieces and nephews.   Mary Lou was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law; William and Dorothy Hackett.   Mrs. VanWie's funeral was held on Monday,  May 18,  2009 at 11:00 from Our Lady of Lourdes Church,  Utica.   Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery,  Whitesboro.
