Dr. Appling served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II flying a DC 8 and was one of the soldiers who flew during The Battle of the Bulge. After the war he graduated from Baylor University and Baylor College of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Corpus Christi, Texas before retiring in 1986. He is a member of The Texas Dental Association and also a long standing member of Second Baptist Church. He was a loyal father and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Hortense Appling.
Surviving him are his children, William B. Appling (Sharon Maitland) and Claire Damarodas of New Braunfels, Texas; his grandchildren, Alison Damarodas Campbell (Andrew) of Georgetown, Texas, Sarah Damarodas Fox (Matt) of Ann Arbor, MI and Hannah Damarodas of Austin, Texas and his great-grandchildren, Cole, Evie, Gabriel and Oliver.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Luling City Cemetery in Luling, Texas.
