Dr. Erastus Carpenter Fielding was the son of Erastus Fielding (1789-1870) and Polly Carpenter (1789-1860). They helped to raise his children after the death of him and his wife. Erastus is listed as a student in the 1832-1833 catalogue of faculty and students of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of the Western District of
the State of N.Y., Fairfield, Herkimer County. The 1840 census shows him and his family of four living in Mendon, Monroe, N.Y. We know from his children's Michigan death records that his wife's name was Sarah Saulsbury. Erastus's siblings were S. Henry Fielding (b. 1811); Jerome D Fielding (1822-1870); Ebeneser M Fielding (1830-1888) Memorial #119483703. Both his father and his brother Jerome were documented as dying from
consumption.
