Sophie Marie Lavish (nee Janezic), 89, of Lorain, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 7, 1914, in Lorain, and lived in Lorain her entire life until entering Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst five months ago.
She graduated from Lorain High School.
Mrs. Lavish, a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, reading the newspaper and cooking. She had bowled at the former Broadway Lanes in Lorain and was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain.
Survivors include her sons Eugene J. Lavish of Avon Lake, Dennis S. Lavish of Amherst and Clifford P. Lavish of Lorain; and six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Joseph Stephen Lavish, in 1979; her parents, Frank Janezic in 1942 and Terezia (nee Cicada) Lavish in 1939; and brothers Joseph and Frank "Fritz" Janezic.
Services at Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. will be followed at 10 a.m. by Mass in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Visitation was Wednesday.
